建築計画を超えて

最近ずっと集合住宅の計画を考えている。集合住宅は建築計画学を生かすお手本のようなビルディングタイプで、ある標準的な人間が完璧に立ち振る舞いができる空間を目指す。集合住宅では効率的で完全な計画性が要求されるので、建築計画を学ぶ時の教材としてもとても良く、だからか、一級建築士の設計製図試験の課題としても定期的に出題される。

建築のビルディングタイプはまず、住宅か非住宅に分かれる。この分け方は別の見方をすると、人にとってプライベート空間かパブリック空間か。集合住宅はもちろんプライベート空間に入るが、非住宅のビルディングタイプの方が種類は多い。オフィスビルや美術館・博物館、病院などなど。

ただ、建築数はたぶん住宅の方が多いだろう。東京の都心部の超高層ビルの上階から見渡したりすると、一面に低層の住宅がビッシリと地面に張り付いているように見えて、ちょっと気持ちが悪くなるくらいに異様に見える。

住宅は人のプライベート、日常の空間を担うビルディングタイプとして、不特定多数の人を相手にする訳では無いからか、建築計画としての決まり事は案外少ない。非住宅の方が不特定多数の人を相手にするので安全性などから決まり事が多いが、集合住宅は非住宅では無いが、特定の多数が積層して住み、それがプライベートの空間で、赤ん坊から老人までが日常的に長時間滞在する可能性があるビルディングタイプなので、非住宅と同じ位か、それ以上に建築計画としての決まり事が多い。

誤解を恐れずに言えば、世の中に存在するほとんどの集合住宅が建築計画としての決まり事と法規を満たすことで成り立っている。それで、あとは事業性を考慮して最大ボリュームを効率的につくり出せば良い。違って見えるのは外壁の仕上げが違うだけ。

それを「気分に追従する」や「感触そのもので成り立つ」や「オープンなパーソナルスペース」などと言った人間の個人的な領域に踏み込んで計画している。
