作品性

形が歪んだ、緑の彩色が施された器を見ると織部焼か、織部焼を真似た作品だとわかるくらい特徴的な器、作者の古田織部は最期、切腹させれた。そうすると、罪人の作品は一斉に無くなる、消えて無かったことになるらしい。

それまで端正で大振りだった茶碗が歪みはじめた。歪みや丸味を排し、黒々とした、無骨で武士が好みそうな姿をしていた茶碗から、丸味を帯び、歪み、彩色を施されたものが生まれた。

黒くて無骨で大振りな、きっと武士にふさわしい茶碗が大勢を占めると、それは権威と同等の価値が与えられるようになったのだろう。

そうなると、創造性豊かな人物ほど、その権威的なものを壊したくなる、それまで捨てられて相手にされなかったものの価値に気づき、注目する。

丸味や歪みの中に、端正で無骨以上の茶碗としての価値、茶の湯の道に沿い、より際立たせる姿を見出したのだろう。

その道程を計り知ることは難しいが、今現在も見ることができるその時代の織部焼は、ただ単に形が歪んで面白いとは違い、その形や彩色の中に見え隠れする端正で無骨なものから生まれた強さを感じるし、温和で柔らかいな印象の中にも黒くて大振りなものをも飲み込んでしまう海のような深さ、怖くもあるが、をも感じる。

器ひとつで人が亡くなる時代から残っていた物の凄み、それを今見て、そこに美とは何たるか、作品性とは、と振り返ることによって、今の人の意識を揺さぶることが素晴らしい。
