実験するための自邸

自邸は実験の場だと学んだのはアアルトの夏の家で中庭の外壁を見た時である。様々なタイプのレンガが見本のように張られていた。もちろんただ張られているだけでなく、窓と合わせてコラージュされていた。それははじめからそのようなデザインを目指しそこに至ったように思える程印象的なものだった。でもたぶんクライアントの建築に対してはやらないだろう、やってもいいとは思うが。普段できないことをしようと考えるのはアイデアがあってもなかなか実現できないからかもしれないが、もしかしたら、そもそも普段のデザインとは違うところで考えていたのかもしれない。思いつく限りのレンガを並べて使い、一度使えば勝手知る材料になり、未知の部分に惑わされることが無くなるから、レンガ以外の素材へと意識が向くようになる。25年前、夏の家の中庭に立ち様々なタイプのレンガが張られた外壁を見ながら想っていたのは前年見たコルビュジエ のインドでの建築の荒々しい打放しの肌だった。

"Home for experimentation"

It was when I saw the outer courtyard of Aalto's summer house that I learned that my house was a place of experimentation. Various types of bricks were stretched like samples. Of course, it wasn't just stretched, it was collaged with the windows. It was so impressive that it seemed that he had aimed for such a design from the beginning and had arrived there. But I probably wouldn't do it for a client's architecture, although I think it's okay. The reason why I try to do things that I can't usually do may be because I can't easily realize even if I have an idea, but maybe I was thinking in a different way from my usual design in the first place. As many bricks as you can think of can be used side by side, and once you use them, they become familiar materials. Twenty-five years ago, standing in the courtyard of a summer house and looking at the outer wall covered with various types of bricks, what I thought was the rough, exposed skin of Le Corbusier's architecture in India that I had seen the previous year.
